Achaemenid Empire AR Siglos – Ancient Persian Silver Coin

Achaemenid Empire, 5th–4th Century BC

AR Siglos – Silver

Weight: 5.55 g

An authentic ancient silver AR Siglos of the Achaemenid Empire, dating to the 5th–4th century BC. This fascinating piece represents one of the most distinctive coin types of ancient Persia and offers a tangible connection to the powerful empire that once stretched across much of the ancient Near East.

The obverse depicts the characteristic Persian royal figure, traditionally represented in a dynamic kneeling-running stance and carrying weapons. The reverse bears the typical incuse punch, a hallmark of Achaemenid siglos coinage.

The coin has a substantial ancient silver flan with attractive natural surfaces and clear surviving elements of the original design. Its irregular shape, wear and striking characteristics are consistent with the hand-struck production methods of antiquity, giving each Achaemenid siglos its own individual character.
